Galvanised steel mesh

Galvanised steel is carbon steel coated in zinc to resist rust. It's strong, durable and excellent value, which makes our galvanised kit ($129) the go-to choice for inland and dry climates. Away from salt air, galvanised mesh will protect your panels reliably for years.

316 marine-grade stainless steel mesh

316 stainless is a marine-grade alloy specifically designed to resist corrosion in salty, humid environments. Our 316 stainless kit ($219) costs a little more, but near the coast that premium buys you far greater longevity — salt spray that would eventually attack galvanised zinc has little effect on 316.

The simple coastal rule of thumb

If you can smell the sea or you're within roughly 5–10 km of the coast, choose 316 stainless — it's the long-term pick for seaside homes.
