How to Install Solar Panel Bird Mesh

Installing your Solar Bird Proofing kit is a straightforward DIY job. The mesh clips directly to your existing panel frames using an aluminium or stainless steel hook and washer — there is no drilling and no damage to your roof or panels. Don't have one yet? Shop the mesh kits — both ship free Australia-wide.

Before you begin

  • Choose a cool, dry day — avoid working on hot panels.
  • Use a stable ladder and appropriate roof safety equipment.
  • Have side cutters, work gloves and a cordless drill (optional) ready.

The four steps

1. Clean the perimeter

Remove leaves, droppings and any existing nesting material from beneath the panels. A clean edge ensures the hook and washer fixings seat firmly.

2. Roll the mesh

Unroll the 1.3mm UV-stabilised steel mesh around the perimeter, tucking the top edge under the frame ready to secure.

3. Fit the hook & washer

Space the aluminium or stainless steel hook and washer fixings evenly along the panel frame to hold the mesh in place — they fit by hand, with no drilling and no fixings into the roof.

4. Secure the corners & trim

Fasten the corners with the supplied UV cable ties to enclose any openings, trim the excess mesh flush, and your array is permanently protected.

How long does it take?

Most homeowners complete a standard 12-panel system in 2–3 hours. Larger arrays may take an afternoon.

Safety note

Working at height carries real risk. If you're not confident on the roof, don't — use a licensed professional instead. See our installer directory.
